Play it in Slow Motion

I was boarding the El today (our public train transportation) when I realized a Cubs game was soon to start and every car of the train would be packed.  I proceeded to get on and was squished by a back pack and a dude towering over me.   As I held onto a bar for dear life this guy got closer and I could feel him breathing down my neck.  All of a sudden I realized there was nothing I could do about this and proceeded to close my eyes and concentrate on my breathing.  Some people might have stared wondering why I was closing my eyes while standing, but there are much weirder things on the El than that.

As I opened my eyes it seemed as if the world was in slow motion.  This may sound a bit creepy, but my mind slowed down everything that was going on, and I heard what people were saying, saw what people were doing, and I could not help but  wonder why I was able to do this.  And then it hit me.  Everyone can do it, everyone can slow things down if they took the time.  We are so busy in our lives that we forget to pay attention to the simple things in life, like the grown man who talks to thin air.  Maybe he had imaginery friends.  Or the girl in the school uniform who was talking to the 30 something man who seemed like they only talked when they saw eachother on the train.  Or what about the common suburban Cubs fan not knowing which way is up or down and starring at everything and everyone out of shear amazement that this is what the city is all about.

If we all took a little time we could all play it in slow motion.  I find myself laughing at the oddities that one can find on a train.  We can all stop the world and appreciate the crazy, hectic, absurd lives we all have.

As much as the world fights and says how everyone is different...we are much alike, and if we all played it in slow motion we would be able to see how apparent that is.
